President's Report 2019

On behalf of the Council, I welcome all of you to this year’s Annual General Meeting, reporting not only our 2018/2019 accomplishments but also celebrating 40 years’ of achievements as a Society. I want to begin by thanking all SWS members who are here tonight for your continued support and keen interest shown in the Society’s activities. I also wish to express my deepest appreciation to my fellow council members for their invaluable guidance, solidarity, dedication and commitment in serving the Society.

Each year as we report the progress of the Society, we are mindful of the long-term objectives we have set out in 2014. Although we have made good progress in the last five years, one challenge faced by SWS and other welding societies around the world is how to increase membership and attract/nurture young members to serve the Society. Over the next few years, the Society will look deep into this issue and plan the strategies to overcome this barrier. We also welcome your thoughts and suggestions to assist us in our journey to make SWS a Society where the members feel proud to be associated with.
